We are former Kentucky journalists: Marie with public radio station WEKU-FM in Richmond, and Mason with The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer.
We’re always curious about who is doing what, when, where, why, and how.
When we learn something that packs an “Oh, WOW!” punch, we can’t wait to share it with others. So we write it down.
Be careful what you say around us. It may end up in a story.
Although we’d love to write all the time, we have other things to do. We both teach at Eastern Kentucky University—Marie in Communication, Mason in English.
And of course we have to play with our four kids, Mitchell, Marlowe, Ruby, and Ingrid, and their cat, Licorice, and bunnies Trinity and Ginger. We also shuttle the children to their soccer games, music lessons, and clogging classes.
There is usually an international student living with us as well. We had to buy a bigger van to fit everybody in.
Marie writes a humor column for The Richmond Register. Most of the material is inspired by everyday family chaos. You know what we’re talking about—wild, weird, whacky things that happen when so many people and pets live in the same house.
When we find a rare moment to indulge our own interests, Mason goes bird watching or practices the martial art, tai chi, while Marie strums her dulcimer, which we all now know (from reading their book, The Lost Dispatch) is the state instrument of Kentucky.
See what you’ve learned from reading that book. See what you’ve missed if you haven’t. It could win you points in a trivia contest some day. So go buy The Lost Dispatch. You’ll be glad you did. Really.
